Volusion is a hosted ecommerce platform, and some clothing brands still run their store on it. Its help center describes three image sizes per product, a zoom feature with a minimum size rule and small thumbnails for alternate views. This page collects what the official Volusion help says, with the date we checked it, and turns it into settings for clothing photos. We make NotShot, an AI on-model photo tool, so we also cover where on-model images fit.
When you upload a product image in Volusion, the platform creates several versions of it. The Volusion help article on the product image zoom feature (checked by us on 1 November 2026) names two of them:
The article on alternate product images adds a third: Alternate Thumbnail Images, 50x50 pixels by default. You can change all of these in Advanced Settings when you upload, and select Remember These Advanced Settings to reuse them.
Image zoom is on by default and magnifies the product image when the cursor moves across it, including alternate views. Volusion help sets two conditions for zoom to work: the large image must be at least 300 pixels wide or 300 pixels high, and it must be 1.2 times the size of the medium image. With the default 400px medium image, that means 480px or more.
The more important point for clothing is the next one. If the image you upload is smaller than 1200px, the system cannot generate a zoom image larger than the original photo. To keep the 1200px zoom, upload at least 1200px. If you raise the medium size, multiply its largest dimension by 1.2 to get the new minimum, for example 600px for a 500px medium image.
The Volusion help article on uploading product images says Volusion automatically resizes product images on upload, so large camera files do not slow the store down. For JPG files, it says you can generally save at the Very High quality setting without a noticeable loss in quality. It also recommends saving the product's basic information before adding images, for quicker load times and fewer upload errors.
The same article covers Protect Product Images in Settings, Config Variables. With it on, visitors who right click a photo see a message that the images are copyrighted.
Alternate images appear as thumbnails below the main product image, which suits clothing: front, back, detail and on-model views. Make sure Enable Alternate View Photo is checked on upload. You can drag and drop images in Image Management to change the order, and shoppers who click a thumbnail see the image in a Lightbox.

The Volusion help articles set no rule against models in product images, so on-model photos can sit next to your packshots as alternate views. Check each marketplace's own rules before you sell there. NotShot renders your garment on your own model from the product photo you already have, and every render is checked by an AI judge that compares it with your upload for color, print and cut. Renders below the quality bar are refunded automatically, so you pay for photos that pass the check, not for attempts. Plans are on the pricing page.
